I grew up near Damascus, AR... in Clinton. Once in high school, some of my friends and I were traveling to a football game, got pulled over in Damascus and our car was searched. We were young and dumb. We had no idea what was going on. They let us go with no ticket, but my mom was furious when I told her! Ha! Anyway, this is something that all of us that grew up near Damascus already knew!
A state prosecutor has found the City of Damascus in violation of the Arkansas Speed Trap Law; the city's police department is also abusing its police power. According to the findings, the city’s revenue collected from speeding tickets exceeded the 30 percent threshold set by the speed trap law.
The investigation started after tons of complaints.
The findings show from 2013-2015 it is "clear that the City of Damascus generated revenue from fines and costs in excess of the 30% of the city’s adjusted expenditures and is presumed to be in violation of the Arkansas Speed Trap Law".
Everyone traveling on Highway 65 knows you SLOW WAY DOWN in Damascus! For as long as I can remember!
