Some dentists in cities like Houston and New York are offering their patients alcohol in the waiting room, partly to take the edge off and partly to make visiting the dentist a little more enjoyable.
One state senator in Texas thinks this is "appalling" and "irresponsible" and is sponsoring a bill that would make it illegal to offer booze to patients.
Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst introduced the bill last month, describing the practice of giving patients some pre-treatment beer "a line that we can’t cross."
The Texas Dental Association supports the bill and said that booze could cause complications and have an effect on a patient's ability to consent to procedures. Other health professionals have also warned against drinking before dental visits, saying that alcohol could affect your body's blood clotting ability, among other concerns.
The bill hasn't passed yet, but it's kind of looking like the waiting room bar is going to be outlawed. (The Dallas Morning News)
