Before Chris Stapleton was dominating every awards show, he was a seemingly unknown singer-songwriter with many, many hit songs already under his belt.

He and his lovely and talented wife, Morgane, performed at the 2012 ASCAP Awards, an awards show that celebrates songwriters and composers of all genres of music. They sang the heartbreaking Waylon Jennings song "Amanda".

It was written by Bob McDill in 1973 and release by Jennings a year later on his album The Ramblin' Man. He didn't release it as a single until 1979, when he included a new version of the song on his first greatest hits album. It became one of the biggest country hits of the year.

The Stapletons performed the song at the awards show to help honor McDill, who was being awarded the ASCAP Golden Note Award. McDill's lyrics about an unbearable heartbreak is absolutely chilling.

Chris and Morgane brought the heart-wrenching song to life with mind-numbing harmonies that garnered cheer and applause from their peers, and a standing ovation when they completed the song.

Watch their mind-blowing performance below.
