Big night in Nashville with a tribute to Randy Travis

Those in attendance at Wednesday night’s (Feb. 8) 1 Night. 1 Place. 1 Time: A Heroes and Friends Tribute to Randy Travis concert enjoyed a bevy of performances from everyone from Garth Brooks to Chris Young, Travis Tritt to Jamey Johnson and many, many more. However, the biggest moment came at the end of the night, when Travis himself led the night’s performers in a sing-a-long of “Amazing Grace” and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”

Readers can press play above to see video of the special moment. The crowd exploded with applause and cheers as Travis and his wife Mary walked to the center of the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena; as Travis began “Amazing Grace” solo, the artists in attendance assembled around him and joined in. Travis stayed with them as they passed the mic around for “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”

Since his stroke, Travis has been largely unable to speak or sing; however, at a private funeral in early February of 2016 and his Country Music Hall of Fame induction in mid-October of 2016, Travis surprised those in attendance by singing a bit of “Amazing Grace.” He also took part in the opening medley at the 2016 CMA Awards, and has made numerous appearances at concerts and other events.
