Unconventional things that guys think are "romantic"!

(Bolde.com)

Guys aren’t necessarily known for our love of romantic gestures, but maybe that’s just because women tend to be on a different wavelength than we are when it comes to what counts as romance. Here are some weird things we do to woo you even if you don’t realize it.

CLEANING THE HOUSE

Male chauvinist history tells us that women typically do most of the cleaning around the house. I’m not saying it’s right, but most of us were raised in a home that reinforced this notion as the norm. As a result, a lot of guys have been led to believe that doing the cleaning is performing some big gesture rather than just doing our fair share. However, can we admit the act of trying to give your partner a clean home is at least a little romantic?

HOLDING IN FARTS

The act of holding in a fart isn’t super romantic but you have to admit that it’s a lot better than the alternative. I mean, if we didn’t hold back, any romantic feeling in the air would immediately go away. Also, it’s not always easy to hold in farts and I think that should count for something.

SENDING FLOWERS AFTER A BAD DATE

I’m still not completely sure why women don’t like this. All of us guys learned in Women 101 that women like flowers. To be honest, it’s one of the few things we know about women with any kind of certainty. So after a bad date, a guy may send flowers as a way to apologize. It means that we’re still interested and would like a chance to make it up to you. Apparently, women find it a little creepy to get flowers after a bad date—but we promise we’re just trying to make it up to you.

DEFENDING YOUR HONOR

Most guys don’t believe that chivalry is dead, so when we like a woman, we’ll go to great lengths to defend her honor. Occasionally that will mean punching someone, which we like to think of as just old-school chivalry. We get why women don’t love this—it shows a bad side of a guy with a violent streak and that’s not good—but we’re (usually) just trying to show our affection for you by defending you any way we can think of.

PUTTING THE TOILET SEAT DOWN

OK, this is another small gesture that some guys like to think of as romance at its finest. In our defense, if we didn’t have sisters growing up, we never really had to get accustomed to putting the toilet seat down. Fast forward to adulthood and it’s suddenly the least we can do. Yes, some guys make too big a deal out of putting the seat down for you, but it’s a sign that we’re thinking about you. There’s a small level of romance in that, right?

WATCHING ROM-COMS WITH YOU

For some women, agreeing to watch a rom-com with you doesn’t count as romantic unless we actually like the movie. I guess that makes sense, but it does seem like an unfair loophole. I mean, we’re willing to suffer through a terrible movie we don’t like for your benefit. To be honest, we don’t understand why we don’t get credit for the romantic gesture on this one.

BRINGING FRIENDS ON A DATE

On the one hand, isn’t a good thing that a guy wants you to meet his friends? That’s a good sign for the relationship and from our perspective, that’s kind of romantic. That being said, we can see how bringing along a friend or two can take away some of the romance in the room. Still, we don’t think this is the worst thing in the world for a guy to do.

SAYING “I LOVE YOU” (IF IT’S TOO EARLY)

Guys have been programmed over time to think that telling a woman that we love her is the most romantic thing possible. This is why we’re so confused when we say it and the girl isn’t super enthralled. The problem is that most guys don’t understand that it can be problematic if said too early. In our defense, there’s no real guideline on the right time to tell a woman you love her, so sometimes it just comes out too soon.

OVER-TEXTING

We know that most women like texting (a lot), so it makes sense that texting with a girl all day is kind of romantic, right? Alas, there is always a fine line when it comes to over-texting. The truth is that guys aren’t as advanced at relationship texting as women. Sometimes we put in an effort believing that our texting is a sign of affection only to find out we’ve gone too far.

GUSHY LOVE NOTES

Honestly, we’re at a loss for why some women don’t find this romantic. If you just write a girl a note telling her everything you like about her early in a relationship, it can apparently come off as creepy. Why? We’re making an honest effort and trying to flatter you! We’re trying and that counts, right?
