'Rona has some re-thinking having kids....right now!

If you bet there was going to be a baby boom due to the quarantine, you may have just wasted your money. Even before the rona hit the U.S. birth rate was at its lowest point in 30 years and that was just when millennials were worried they couldn’t afford it. And the world flipping upside down hasn’t exactly made us more into the idea of making a miniature version of ourselves.

  • Jessica,27.Self-described “millennial single lesbian” Jessica was giving the frozen sperm donor route a try in 2019 but had no luck. And here in 2020, she says “I now feel totally paralyzed about financial security, et cetera, and am now no longer planning to try to get pregnant anytime soon.”
  • Megan, 27.Megan thought children were a financial burden before, and now due to COVID, she’s out on being a mom. “I simply don’t want to have kids anymore,” says Megan. “It’s not affordable. I can’t justify bringing a human being into a world that’s so f****d.”

But while there’s a lot of women that share Jessica and Megan’s sentiment, there’s other millennials who have had the opposite feeling. For some, the lockdown has actually made them want to have children more than ever, and in some cases, moved up their timelines.

  • Sangeetha, 27.Sangeetha has had a lot of time to think in quarantine and her main thought was she wants some kiddos asap. “I’ve been very broody all the way through the lockdown and being at home all the time is making me think about how much nicer this would be with kids.”
  • Kristin, 30.Kristen and her husband got a taste of the parent-life in lockdown and got hooked. They both got let go from work and offered to take care of her sister’s kid while she was still working. Kristen says the experience made her “think more about the sacrifices we would have to make to become parents, but also about the joys we could experience.” And apparently the last time they watched her niece, her husband turned to her and straight-up said ‘Let’s have kids’ and she said: “Let’s.”
