AMAZON: Planning "Mass Call Out" This Week
Hundreds of Amazon warehouse workers are planning to call out sick this week to protest what they believe is the company's lack of protections for employees continuing to work during the coronavirus crisis.
So far 300 workers across 50 facilities have signed on to join the "mass call out" beginning today. According to worker rights group, United for Respect, employees are calling on Amazon to close down facilities that have positive COVID-19 cases and provide testing and two weeks of pay for all workers at those facilities. They're also demanding paid sick leave and guaranteed healthcare.
In recent weeks, some workers have staged walk-outs at facilities in New York, Illinois and Detroit. Some corporate employees have also planned a "virtual sick-out" on April 24th to demand better treatment for warehouse workers.
