Dukes of Hazzard, The General Lee is under attack, stars claim innocence

DUKES OF HAZZARD: Stars Respond to Renewed Controversy Over Car's Confederate Flag

Dukes of Hazzard stars Tom Wopat and John Schneider are speaking out against "political correctness" amid renewed controversy over the show's iconic car.

In 2015, the show was pulled from broadcast TV, and toys based on the General Lee, the 1969 Dodge Charger that bears a Confederate flag on its roof, were removed from stores. Now there's a renewed push to ban that flag, and once again the muscle car has come under fire.

John Schneider, who played Bo Duke, tellsThe Hollywood Reporter, "I have never had an African American come up to me and have any problem with it whatsoever." He adds that the "whole politically correct generation has gotten way out of hand."

Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke, says, "The situation in the country has obviously changed in the last 40 years. I feel fortunate to be living in a time when we can address some of the injustices of the past. But the car is innocent."

Just a few days ago, the Volo Auto Museum in Crystal Lake, Illinois, which displays the car used in the first season, says it will not be removed.
