A social media strategy that we ALL could use from time to time!

As long as there has been Facebook, there have been people who are annoying and sometimes just straight-up offensive on Facebook. The general rule of thumb for the platform is to “never read the comments” but since we just can’t help ourselves, maybe it’s time to come up with another strategy. One where you can get all your frustration out without losing your job, or friends, due to your replies.

Introducing the “Type-Then-Delete” strategy of Facebook. Hit reply, type out your scathing comment using all the four-letter words you can think of, then hit backspace. Why waste your time trying to educate someone that’s a grown-ass adult that should know better? Instead, let out all your demons in that reply box, delete it, and move on.

While it’s noble that you’ve made it your personal responsibility to correct all the misinformation online, the bad news is it’s not working. A recent study by researchers at UC Berkeley and the University of Chicago has shown the dehumanizing aspects of social media make it difficult for us to view opinions we disagree with as coming from a fellow “capable human being.” So in other words, online arguments are basically never worthwhile because no one can take each other seriously.

Just be extra careful if you’re using the “type-then-delete” strategy that you are hitting delete. You might want to slap that phone into airplane mode just to make sure you’re not letting the post get out there.
