This is about the time of year people start making their holiday travel plans, if they haven’t done so already, but unfortunately this year won’t be your typical holiday season.
A new Travelocity survey finds:
- 60% of Americans won’t be traveling to see friends and family this holiday season.
- What’s more, one-in three people say they won’t even be celebrating the holidays this year.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. Some people are being optimistic when it comes to leisure travel.
- In fact, 25% of those polled have some sort of personal vacation planned for later this year.
- 45% of family travelers with kids under 18 will be taking a leisure trip before the end of the year.
- Almost two-thirds of those polled have already booked transportation and lodging for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
- 20% plan to book sometime this month.
As for what types of trips most people have planned:
- 80% plan to drive to their November and December destination, while 20% will fly.
- 53% are planning a trip that lasts between one and four days.
- Two-thirds will travel 250 miles or less.
- 43% of travelers will stay at a hotel or vacation rental, with hotels a tiny bit more popular.
