"Cuffing Season" is upon us, here is what NOT to put on your dating profile

If you’ve spent more than a day on dating apps, you know people write some wild stuff on their bio. There’s a difference between honesty and TMI and apparently, some folks don’t know how to toe the line. So here are some tips on what NOT to put in your bio...well, if you’re actually hoping to ever score a match online.

  • Rants & Complaints. Just a reminder, this is a dating app biography, not a Reddit comment section. Skip ranting, complaining, and negativity on Tinder. Dating coach Erika Ettin says negativity can suggest that you're burned out, bitter, or generally pessimistic. All qualities that aren’t exactly at the top of people’s lists for must-haves in a partner.
  • Too Many Emojis. If your bio requires a master’s degree in emoji translation to decipher, that’s not great. Ettin says your goal should be to “catch someone's attention in a short amount of time” and that too many emojis can turn people away that don’t want to spend the time to figure out what you’re trying to say.
  • Photo With An Ex. Even if you look the hottest you’ve ever been, if you’re standing next to your ex, all the other singles on the dating app are going to think that you’re not over them. Or they’ll start comparing themselves to them. Either way, not a great way to kick things off between you. Stick to pics where you’re looking good and with someone.
