Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says another economic stimulus package should be passed before the end of the year. As we’ve been telling you, negotiations on a new stimulus have been deadlocked for months.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been negotiating directly with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin as Senate Republican leaders have largely remained on the sidelines. Pelosi has been pushing for an aggressive new stimulus while Mnuchin favors a more narrow, targeted approach.
McConnell says the coronavirus must be crushed before the nation can start getting back to normal. The economy is still struggling to fully recover from the outbreak as the virus surges again across much of the country. He hopes to have debate on the issue at the top of the list once the Senate is back in session.
