Christmas has evolved in lots of ways over time, but maybe it’s time to bring back some old-fashioned traditions. We can do all our shopping online and kids even email Santa letters these days and while these things may be more convenient, they may not be as magical. Reviving these Christmas customs from the past could bring extra holiday cheer.
- Cutting down your own Christmas tree- Follow Clark Griswold’s lead and cut down your own tree. The key is going later in the season, measuring the space where the tree will be placed, and wearing gloves.
- Putting oranges in stockings- This citrus fruit used to be a traditional stocking stuffer and it’s an easy, inexpensive, and even healthy one to revive.
- Using edible, natural decorations- A long time ago, people used nuts, berries, and fruits as ornaments, so it may be time to bring back these decorative and delicious options instead of all the plastic we use today.
- Dressing up for Christmas dinner- We go all out with food, decorations, drinks, and gifts, so why not put more effort into our Christmas day attire? Sure, it’s comfy to wear leggings or a hoodie, but dressing up for the holiday could be a nice change.
- Making homemade gifts -People used to give each other handcrafted presents, from carved wooden toys and pieces of needlework to freshly baked goods. Now we buy pretty much all our gifts, but nothing’s more heartfelt than something you took the time to make yourself.
