Winter is here. And even though it sounds a lot less cool to say if you’re not Jon Snow, it’s still true. If you want to thrive instead of just survive through the coldest months of the year, here are some helpful hacks to keep in mind.
- Kitty litter for traction.Stash some kitty litter in your trunk for when your car gets stuck in the snow. While salt is still king for traction, the cat toilet filler is a great alternative. Plus, it will be great if you match with a cat lover on Tinder.
- Turn your old sweaters into mittens.Outgrown a sweater? Upcycle it! Turning sweaters into mittens and socks is surprisingly cheap and simple. All you need is a mitten template, scissors, a thread and needle, and a good Internet connection for the YouTube tutorial you’re going to have to watch to pull it off.
- Protect your pets' paws from salt.Just like every dude who refuses to apply lotion in the winter, dogs and cats can get dry skin in the winter too. Avoid painful skin cracking or peeling on your four-legged friends by applying Vaseline to their paws before taking them outside.
- Zip tie your bike tires. If you’re committed to reducing your carbon footprint,or you have a DUI,and you plan to bike around in the snow, get some traction on slippery roads by attaching zip ties around your tires. And stick a baseball card in your spokes to pretend you’re on a motorcycle.
- Keep your toilet seat warm with socks. The only thing worse than a hot toilet seat you know a stranger just sat on is a cold toilet seat during your morning ritual. If your toilet seat is U-shaped, take a pair of socks and pop them on the ends of the seat.Make sure you’re ok with throwing those socks away because those little guys are going to see some things they won’t recover from.
