PRINCE HARRY: Remaining a Royal "Wasn't Possible"
Prince Harryhas made his first public comments on his exit from the British royal family.
At a charity dinner in London on Sunday, the Prince said he wanted to continue supporting the Queen but without funds from the public. "Unfortunately, that wasn't possible," he explained. "I've accepted this knowing it doesn't change who I am or how committed I am, but I hope it helps you understand what it had come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life."
Last week, Harry and wifeMeghanMarkle announce they were stepping away from the royal family, and now they have to give up their "royal highness" titles and pay back the $3.1 million they used to renovate their home, Frogmore Cottage.
Harry said, "The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. And I know I haven't always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option. What I want to make clear is, we're not walking away, and we certainly aren't walking away from you."
Meanwhile, Meghan's father ThomasMarklehas shared his comments on the so-called "Megxit." In an upcoming U.K. documentary, the 75-year-oldsaid, “They are destroying [the monarchy], they are cheapening it, they’re making it shabby. They are turning it into a Walmart with a crown on it now."
