Love can bloom in the middle of difficult times!!

We love a good happily ever after story and this one is about a woman who just said “I do” to her real-life hero. Chantal Melanson first met Austin Monfort at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas in 2017. They hit it off and snapped their first photo together and an hour later, a gunman opened fire on the crowd.

As everyone in the audience ran in different directions, Austin stayed by Chantal’s side and together they ran across the festival grounds for cover. “He’s my hero,” she says. “He kept me calm, took my hand and told me we were running to safety while bullets rained down.” They both escaped unharmed, but the next day, she had to fly home to Canada and he went back home to California.

The couple FaceTimed each other every day and never went more than six weeks without seeing each other. He proposed after a year and a half and the couple were legally married in a courthouse wedding for her K1 visa in November. They’ve been planning a big wedding in Las Vegas in May, but it’s being postponed because of the coronavirus. But they’ve been through so much already and they’ll get through this the same way, as Chantal says, “We’ve dealt with everything by focusing on the positive.”
