‘Netflix and Chill’ is so 2018...2020 is all about YouTube and Quarantine! Falling down a rabbit hole of free videos mixed with skippable ads is basically the new national pastime. But now that stay at home orders are loosening up, it might be time to start weaning yourself off cat videos. Here’s how you can kick your YouTube addiction.
- Force a Break. A good place to start is the good old-fashioned shame-method. Pull up the YouTube app on your phone, tap on your profile in the upper-right corner, and click on “Time Watched.” Then prepare to feel very unproud of yourself and wonder‘is that a high score?’Hopefully, this will be the kick in the butt you need to be more productive with your time.
- Set a reminder to turn it off.YouTube knows it’s addictive, and that’s why it has a built-in “break” function. In your profile you’ll find a section that says “Tools to manage your YouTube time” where you can remind yourself to put the phone down every once in a while. If you’re a major addict, you might also want to shut off the push notifications so you don’t get the itch every time one of your favorite influencers drops a new vid.
