Still dreaming of the day you finally get to take that trip to Italy you’ve always wanted? If you’re willing to travel this summer, there’s a village in the European country that wants to make it easier for you to get there. San Giovanni in Molise is offering tourists a free week-long stay this summer.
The quaint village is full of empty houses because of depopulation and they’re trying to entice visitors to come stay in them. The project is offering 40 one-week stays in three of the charming homes between July and September. San Giovanni is located two hours from Naples and Rome and their hope is that the free accommodations will encourage tourists to come and make the most of the region’s culture, food and drink, and surroundings.
Anyone who doesn’t already live in Molise - or have any relatives or property there - can apply and they make the process really simple. All you have to do is fill out aformexplaining why you want to discover the area and then hope you’re chosen as one of the lucky winners. If all goes well in San Giovanni, the project will extend to other villages in Molise, so there could be more free stays up for grabs in the future.
