We all know that distracted driving is a real problem, but that doesn’t mean folks aren’t guilty of doing it. In fact, according to a new poll, most people think it’s gotten worse than ever.
A new survey finds:
- 50% of Americans feel driving is less safe overall.
- 82% are concerned about the increase in distracted driving.
- 91% of people feel they are a safe driver, although 49% admit they could drive safer.
Of course there are lots of different types of distracted driving out there.
- The poll finds the most common form of distracted driving is drinking liquids (35%), followed by:
- Adjusting the car radio (29%)
- Fiddling with controls (25%)
- Events outside the vehicle (18%)
- Passengers talking (16%)
- 60% of Americans admit they’ve accessed social media while driving, or sent a text or email.
- 67% think accessing social media is the most dangerous form of distracted driving.
And sadly, not many people are doing anything to make them less distracted behind the wheel.
- Only 12% of people say they turn off their phone when they are driving
- Only 19% switch off their ringtone/notifications when they are behind the wheel.
