Ways to keep a positive mindset!

The best time to have developed a positive mindset, that could carry you through even the worst days, would have been about three months ago... But the second-best time to work on it, would be right about now-ish. Lucky for you, a new study has figured out how the most resilient amongst us create optimism during lonely days. Here’s how you can be more like them.

  • How to develop an upbeat mindset.Exercise, meditation, and prayer were among the most common ways people have stayed centered through COVID-19. What do they all have in common? They’re all forms of self-care. If you’re feeling lonely, stressed, anxious, or depressed the researchers say you could turn things around by putting self-care in your calendar and making it a routine.
  • Limit your tech use.The study found “the amount of time people spend passively browsing social media was unrelated to positive states and strongly linked to anxiety.” Or in layman's terms, social media is bad. Also, when it comes to staying in touch, it’s probably best to take conversations off text. The study found that it was harder to “establish a meaningful connection” over messenger, so stick to Zooming until you can get back to face-to-face.
  • Good deeds elicit positive emotions.Being nice isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s also the healthy thing to do. According to the research, those who don’t help others experience more negative emotions. And it doesn’t have to be some huge merit badge earning gesture. Something as simple as a donation can go a long way.
