LADY A: Group Sues Other Lady A
Lady A is suing Lady A.
The country group filed suit against the R&B singer today (Wednesday) in a federal court in Nashville. They've been locked in a battle over the name since announcing on June 11th that they were dropping Antebellum from their name in solidarity with Black people.
A few weeks ago, they thought they'd come to an agreement with Anita White, who's been performing under that name for 20 years. But those talks broke down, and now the group's lawyers say White is trying to keep them from enforcing a trademark they registered a decade ago. They add that she's demanded $10 million to relinquish her claim to the name.
They insist that they wouldn't try to keep White from performing as Lady A, just that they want her to allow them to do the same.
