It’s understandable that not many folks took vacations in the first half of 2020, but it seems more and more Americans are itching to get away.
According to a new Expedia survey:
- 85% of U.S. travelers say they are likely to take some sort of road trip this summer.
- 72% of people are taking road trips because they feel it’s safer than flying.
But it doesn’t look like folks plan to go too far for their getaway.
- In fact, 85% of hotel searches on Expedia last month were for hotels within the U.S.
- One quarter of last month’s bookings were for same-state stays.
- As for the main reasons folks are planning a trip this summer:
- 43% say it’s because they need a change of scenery
- 36% have a desire to be outdoors.
- Not surprisingly, health and safety is the biggest concern for people traveling this summer (72%), followed by:
- Avoiding crowds (68%)
- Budget (60%)
Due to these concerns, folks are most interested in flexibility when it comes to their travel.
- 97% of hotels booked last month were at refundable rates, which is up 20% from last year.
