Zoom has been a lot of things to us during the on-going crisis. It’s been where we meet for work, the virtual space we hang out with friends, and for some of the kinkier amongst us, it’s been the spot for some digital debauchery. But it’s not really the first place you think of heading when you need a self-esteem boost.
The front-facing camera on our laptops has not been too kind and it could be why we’re seeing a global boom in demand for cosmetic surgery. Yes, you're not the only one who spends half their Zoom call staring at themselves thinking about how low your boobs are or how fleshy your arms look. Cosmetic and plastic surgeon Gerard Lambe says not to be surprised when “people return to work in the coming months looking mysteriously fresher, perkier and slimmer” because the increase in camera time has meant a serious increase in interest for getting work done.
But there are some cheaper options that don’t involve any knives going in or around your body instead. You could buy a better camera and work on an angle where you only have the one chin. You could invest in a lighting kit like the millions of YouTubers are already using. Or you could give yourself a break, hide yourself from the screen, and ease up on the body shaming.
