Epic Games – the company responsible for “Fortnite” – is going to war with Apple. Firing the first salvo? Apple announced the removal of “Fortnite” from their AppStore for “violating its payment system.” Google also removed the game from its Google Play Store.
Hours later, Epic filed their own lawsuit against Apple claiming they’ve “monopolized the distribution market” in the AppStore. In the suit, Epic says they aren’t looking for “monetary damages,” but want to see a fairer marketplace for developers.
The drama all centers around “Fortnite’s” in-game currency, V-bucks. Apple is upset because Epic offered a workaround for players to buy them directly from Epic for $2 cheaper than players could get them in the AppStore. This saves Epic a 30% fee allowing them to sell the virtual currency cheaper. Epic hasn’t responded to Google’s moves as yet.
