Believe it or not, next weekend is Labor Day weekend. And while in past years that would mean half the office would be out on vacation, things are certainly looking a lot different this year. But that doesn’t mean nobody’s going away.
- Earlier this year a Travelocity survey found that most families were either postponing a trip until Labor Day, or planning to take their first leisure trip over the holiday.
- 75% of families are planning outdoor and adventure trips, while half are planning trips to a beach or lake.
- Although it seems that some travelers aren’t making any plans, with Travelocity noting that there will likely be a lot of last minute vacation bookings.
So, where is everyone actually going?
- Well, according to new research, popular beach trips include:
- Myrtle Beach, Charleston and the Outer Banks in the Carolinas
- Panama City, Key West and Pensacola in Florida
- Orange Beach and Gulf Shores in Alabama
- Ocean City, Virginia Beach and Cape Cod in the Northeast
- Popular lake vacations include:
- Big Bear Lake and Lake Tahoe in California
- Traverse City, Michigan
- And outdoor vacations include:
- Estes Park in Colorado Springs,
- The Ashville North Carolina Mountains
- The Grand Canyon
- Jackson Hole, Wyoming
When it comes to where people are staying, it seems more and more people are skipping hotels this year. Popular lodging searches include:
- Condos (up 540%)
- Cabin (485%)
- Cottage (425%)
- Houseboat (270%)
- Lodge (235%)
As for what folks plan to do on their vacations, some are looking to be active, while others simply want peace. Among the top searches:
- Fishing (550%)
- Rooms with a View (542%)
- Secluded Destinations (400%)
- Lake Activities (327%)
- Golf (153%)
