Fashion trends that did not survive COVID!

Back in mid-March, many of us ditched our skinny jeans and cute dresses for something a little comfier as we settled in to lockdown. We may have resorted to wearing leggings or sweatpants every single day and some of us who are still working from home may still be wearing these as a uniform. But before the days of the stretchy clothing-era, there were fashion trends people paid attention to and some of them just didn’t survive the pandemic.

Here are some pre-COVID styles we probably won’t be seeing much of anymore:

  • HUGE handbags- Back in the days of needing a large bag to haul around everything you needed for your packed schedule, or that of your kids, an enormous purse made sense. But now, if you’ve got room in there for your phone, wallet, face mask, hand sanitizer and phone, you’re good to go.
  • Shorts suits- This trend was expected to be really big in 2020, but it never got the chance to take off. Even blazers are now stuck in the back of our closets or hanging on the back of our desk chairs and pants with an actual waistband are no longer required, which is a good thing after all that sourdough bread we’ve been eating!
  • Summer boots- Before we spent months padding around at home in socks or comfy slippers, we didn’t realize how uncomfortable actual shoes could be. We were used to them and that’s why wearing leather boots in the summer heat seemed reasonable. But now that we’re blister-free, we’re not going back to hot weather boots.
  • Tube tops- In early spring, some thought the tube top would be the thing to wear this summer, but it didn’t happen. Maybe that’s because wearing one on a Zoom call could make it appear like you’re totally nude and that’s not really the look anyone’s trying to go for in their morning meeting.
  • Dad sneakers- They had a good run over the last few years, but don’t expect to see many people rocking the clunky footwear post-pandemic. The exception? Moms decked out in light wash mom jeans and actual dads themselves.
