Ways breakfast can derail your entire day!

Some people say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but that all depends on what you’re eating. The thing is, certain morning meal habits could actually be setting your day up for failure. These are common breakfast mistakes that could make your meal less healthy and even lead you to pack on the pounds.

  • You're not drinking water first- Not only does water help boost your metabolism and give you a little energy, onestudyfinds that participants who drank water before their meals ended up losing weight over the 12 weeks because they felt fuller and ate less.
  • You stock up on fruit juice- They can be high in calories and loaded with added sugars.
  • You buy the wrong kind of yogurt- Sure, yogurt can be healthy, but not the kind that comes with sweets to mix in or lots of artificial ingredients. Stick with plain Greek yogurt or one that’s low in sugar and high in protein and you’re good to go.
  • You go for the quickest, easiest meal- Those cereal bars are easy to grab and go, but the super sugary ones will leave you hungry again long before lunch.
  • You only eat egg whites- The yolks are packed with vitamin D and choline, which helps regulate metabolism and brain development, so don’t skip the yolks.
  • You go topping-crazy with your oatmeal- Plain oats are bland, but those flavored instant oatmeal packs are really sugar bombs disguised as a healthy breakfast. Instead, make your own plain oats and add fresh fruit, flax or chia seeds and nuts for flavor and protein.
  • You ruin your coffee- There are all kinds of health benefits to coffee, it’s the flavored creamer and sweeteners that are the problem.
  • You think granola is a better-for-you choice- It has a reputation for being healthy, but granola can be high in sugar and if you’re adding it to yogurt, you could end up downing more sugar than a Krispy Kreme donut has, which is 10 grams for an Original Glazed.
