The coronavirus certainly has affected the way Americans eat, since going out for meals wasn’t happening. And a new poll finds it may have changed the way folks are eating for good.
A new report by Acosta finds:
- 55% of shoppers are eating at home more often since the pandemic began.
- 44% are eating breakfast at home every day, something only 33% of people did before COVID.
- 31% are eating lunch at home every day, as compared to 18% pre-COVID.
- 33% are eating dinner home every day, something only 21% did before the pandemic.
As for how people feel about being responsible for their own meals, opinions are mixed.
- In fact, while 25% say they are sick of cooking more, another 35% actually discovered a new passion for cooking during lockdown.
- But it wasn’t like cooking and meal planning was necessarily easy.
- The biggest challenges included:
- Grocery shopping due to risk of exposure (45%)
- Planning different meals every day (40%)
- Lack of food/ingredients (38%)
- Improving coking skills (17%)
And in what’s bound to be bad news for restaurants, it seems a lot of people don’t plan to go back to their normal ways of eating out once the crisis is over.
- 47% say they will eat breakfast out less often or not at all.
- 33% say the same about lunch
- 29% say the same about dinner.
