NFL: Hall of Famer Gale Sayers Dead at 77
The NFL community is mourning the loss of Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers who died today after battling dementia. He was 77.
The legendary Chicago Bears star played only seven seasons as his career was cut short by injuries, but he's regarded as one of the best running backs in NFL history. The 1965 Rookie of the Year was a five-time All-Pro and, at 34-years-old, was the youngest player ever inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His real-life friendship with Bears teammate Brian Piccolo inspired the 1971 movie Brian's Song.
