Cooking at home has been on the rise in 2020!

Tomorrow is National Cooking Day, but for most folks every day for the past six months has been National Cooking Day, and while some people are loving it, not everyone is thrilled.

A new Thermomix survey finds:

  • 70% of Americans say they are enjoying cooking at home since the coronavirus hit
  • 64% cooked more than one meal at home per day prior to the pandemic, while 31% were cooking three or more meals a day.
  • But their cooking habits have changed with 72% currently cooking more than one meal a day at home, and 40% cooking three or more meals.
  • 26% are cooking more frequently now than they did before lockdowns began, while only 12% are cooking less.

When it comes to what they’re cooking:

  • 56% of Americans say they tried cooking a new dish or making a new drink for the first time during the shut down.
  • Among the most popular dishes/drinks attempted for the first time:
    • Pastas (23%)
    • Homemade pizza (23%)
    • Baked goods (23%)
    • Smoothies/Juices (19%)
    • Soup/stew (18%)
    • Coffee beverages (17%)
    • Bread (17%)
    • Cocktails/mocktails (17%)

But not everyone loves all aspects of cooking.

  • In fact, only 11% love all parts of the cooking experience.
  • The least favorite parts of cooking include:
    • Doing dishes (48%)
    • Amount of time it takes to cook (29%).
    • Having to use more than one pan/pot (25%)
    • Standing over/waiting by stove (24%)
    • Prepping meal to be cooked (22%)
    • My significant other/children not liking what I cooked (13%)
  • ONE MORE THING!The survey also asked folks to pick the celebrity they’d most like to cook them dinner, with chef Gordon Ramsay topping the list (21%), followed by Bobby Flay(14%) and Martha Stewart(13%)
