COVID wrecked a lot of weddings this year!

A lot of special events were upended this year thanks to the coronavirus and that’s particularly true for weddings. Well, now a new survey reveals how couples are changing things up going forward.

  • Zola surveyed 2,223 couples with weddings scheduled between March 2020 and December 2022.
  • The majority of them had weddings planned for this year.
  • Of those couples, only 23 say they were totally not affected by the pandemic.
  • 58 are either cancelling or putting wedding planning on pause.
  • 62% decided to postpone their wedding, with most putting it off a year.
  • 38% delayed the entire wedding, while 24% are tying the knot but putting off their big reception.
  • 28% have dropped their guest list in order to stick with their original date.
  • 7% decided to elope instead and 3% either paused wedding planning or canceled their wedding.
  • 75% of couples have postponed their wedding one time, while 25% have pushed the date two or three times.

Of those who postponed their wedding:

  • 92% have already picked a new date.
  • 65% moved their wedding to 2021, while 24% are still planning to wed this year.
  • 54% picked a date that they hope will help them avoid the coronavirus, while 38% hope there may be a vaccine by the time they wed.

When it comes to the actual wedding the main priority for most couples is being able to have their family and friends celebrate with them. That’s followed by:

  • Getting legally married as soon as possible.
  • Keeping the same wedding vendors.

And when those weddings happen, couples won't be forgetting about coronavirus on th big day.

  • 73% plan to incorporate hand sanitizing stations and will also adjust seating to comply with social distancing.
  • 62% plan to either suggest or require masks.
  •  55% are changing their food service to plated, versus buffet or family style.
  • 32% have moved their wedding to an outdoor venue.
