Who didn't see this coming: The Election = STRESS!

The presidential election is less than a month away, and it seems most Americans can’t wait for it to be over because it’s really stressing them out.

A new survey by the American Psychological Association finds:

  • 68% of Americans say the 2020 presidential election is a major source of stress in their life.
  • And that number is pretty equal regardless of party affiliation.
  • 76% of Democrats say the election is a significant source of stress, while 67% of Republicans and 64% of Independents say the same.
  • 71% of Black adults say the election is stressing them out, a jump from 46% in 2016.
  • Americans’ health is also a major factor when it comes to election stress.
  • 71% of those with chronic conditions site the election as a source of stress, with 39% saying it’s a very significant source of stress.
  • For those without chronic conditions, 64% say the election is a cause of stress.

And it’s not simply the election.

  • 77% say the future of our nation is a significant source of stress, up from 66% last year.
  • 68% say our current political climate is causing them significant stress, compared to 62% last year.
