We’re somewhere between day 250 and 1000 of living with the coronavirus looming over us. And not that you didn’t already know this is you’ve been single through this year but…COVID seems to be having a bigger impact on dating than predicted. Match.com has just released its annual survey and here are some of the more shocking takeaways.
- Dating Took A Serious Turn. The ‘rona had us thinking about life and death and with those deep thoughts came some soul searching on what we really want in our love life. According to the survey, 53% of singles reported that they had gotten more serious about finding the one, while at the same time redefining what that meant to them. For example, about 45% said they were putting less emphasis on looks and 59% said they were opening up to a wider range of potential partners.
- Things Got Real, Real Quick. It also appears that having conversations and dates shifted to online-only helped people put down their defenses sooner than dating IRL. Nearly 65% said they spent more time getting to know potential partners, and 69% said they’ve been more honest. But unfortunately, it didn’t translate into having deeper relationships since only 43% said they had a meaningful connection in lockdown.
- Old Flames Rekindled. Desperate times call for desperate measures. A quarter of the survey said they had an ex hit them up in 2020 and 10% said they actually got back together with them. Nothing like a global health crisis to make your relationship issues seem fixable.
