A Chicago woman’s obituary has gone viral for all the life lessons it includes. But what makes it even more special? Stacy Lois Oliver wrote it herself before she died from multiple system atrophy at age 52. Her husband of 21 years, Jeff Oliver, says she decided to write it after doctors told her there was no cure for the progressive neurodegenerative disorder and she wanted to get her thoughts out while she could.
“I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I am telling you what to do,”Stacy wrote. “Stop worrying about your weight, go live, be, do. Smile, people don’t get to feel them enough.”
Stacy also shared about her life, her 21 years working at Northwestern University, and her hobbies, which included making beaded jewelry, belly dancing, hula dancing, sewing and baking. She talked about her family and her beloved husband, who she described as her best friend and the love of her life. And she also encouraged people to enjoy the moment.
“If you want to do it, give something a try, try it, taste it, go there," she wrote. "Take it from me, I'm dead. Eat the danish, go to the show, laugh out loud. Love one another and you'll never know what you'll find.”
