SPACE: NASA "High Fives" Asteroid
NASA made history on Tuesday when it successfully landed a spacecraft on the surface of a speeding asteroid more than 200 million miles away from Earth.
The OSIRIS-RRx spacecraft had been pursuing the asteroid Bennu for two years before it was finally able to attach itself. It then used a robotic arm to scoop up pieces of the asteroid which will be sent back to Earth for scientists to study.
NASA scientists likened the landing to a "high-five" because it only made contact with the asteroid for about 16 seconds. They hope the samples taken will provide information about the creation of the solar system.
