If you think politics are weird now, wait until our generation is in charge. If how we’re feeling now is an indication, the constitution is in for quite the overhaul. According to a new survey, Millennials are less satisfied and more disillusioned with democracy than any generation has been at our age in this decade.
And it’s not just an American thing. The study found these feelings are shared in Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, France, Australia, and the United Kingdom. So we’d better start figuring out how to say “let's overthrow the government” in a bunch of languages.
But things could change if we started getting our fair share of the pie. Researchers say the main reason why Millennials are losing faith in democracy is income inequality. We currently make up around a quarter of the US population but hold just 3% of the wealth. To put that in context, Boomers held 21% of the wealth at the same age. Math isn’t our favorite subject but even we know that's a huge gap!
