An Arkansas man got a very special treat this year on Halloween when he visited Crater of Diamonds State Park. Steven McCool was sorting through the dirt when he came across a small glass-like object just 30 minutes before the park closed.
“As my eyes were panning to it, I was thinking it could be an amber piece of glass like an old Coke bottle,” McCool explains. “Once I focused on it, though, I knew it was a diamond. I was like, ‘No way! No way!’”
And he was right! It was a diamond, in fact, it’s the third-largest one found this year. The 4.49-carat sparkler is a canary yellow diamond, about the size of a jelly bean. He’s still deciding on whether he’s going to keep it or sell it, but he is already planning to go back to the park and search for more.
