Drugmaker Pfizer says that it looks like their coronavirus vaccine is more than 90% effective. While the announcement was based on early data, the implications are clearly huge if the trend holds.
Not surprisingly, the company says it is seeking emergency authorization from the FDA after volunteers are monitored for two months. If all goes well, it’s expected that doses could begin getting distributed as soon as December.
If you think this is a huge deal, you’re right – and yes, Dr.Anthony Fauci agrees that people are allowed to get excited. “You have to go through the hoops of making sure all of the Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed about the safety and the regulatory aspects of it,”he said in an interviewwith CNN’sWolf Blitzer. “But we would be giving vaccine to people very likely before the end of this year. That is good news.”
