One group picks it's "word for the year"

The Collins English Dictionary just announced its 2020 word of the year, and as you may have guessed it has a little something to do with current events.

They’ve given the word “lockdown” the top honors this year and say it’s because it’s a “unifying experience for billions of people across the world, who have had, collectively, to play their part in combating the spread of COVID-19.”

According to the dictionary, the term was “originally a piece of prison vocabulary for when inmates are confined to their cells because of some disturbance on the wing,” but now this year has changed it forever.
