Two Florida teens are under arrest after police discovered their plot to shoot up their middle school.
Police say school officials had become aware of a rumor circulating around The Villages Charter Middle School in Lady Lake, Florida about a mass shooting planned for today (Friday). The students, ages 13 and 14, were taken into custody yesterday (Thursday) and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Police say the teens acknowledge having discussions about shooting up the school and referenced the Columbine High School massacre. Police searched their homes and found several firearms.
School is open today but there is an increased police presence as a precaution. (ABC News)
This could have been a horrible tragedy had students and faculty ignored the rumors and not taken them seriously. An example of why it's so important that if you see or hear something, you need to say something. The kids had an actual plan and had come up with some sort of signal for when to start shooting. As a parent, this terrifies me.
