I completely agree with this research. I would much rather do something fun then get flowers that will die in a week.
So maybe don’t waste your money on jewelry, flowers, or candy this Valentine’s Day. Instead, give your sweetie an experience. It will mean a lot more.
According to researchers Michael Norton and Elizabeth Dunn, authors of Happy Money: The Science of Smarter Spending, 57% of Americans said money spent on an experience made them happier than money spent on material things. Only 34% said they would rather have stuff than a great memory.
They write, "In study after study, people are in a better mood when they reflect on their experiential purchases, which they describe as 'money well spent.'" (Reader’s Digest)
