Prayers to the family and friends regarding this terrible news.
A 7-year-old boy died at Arkansas Children's Hospital overnight after the boat his family was in capsized on the Arkansas River.
A 4-year-old sibling made his way to the shore and was rescued. The boy was wearing a life jacket and was able to climb out of the water.
The authorities are considering this a rescue effort at this time as they search for the parents of the boys in the dam.
Sources say the family is from Arkoma, OK.
LeFlore County Emergency Management posted the following message on Facebook on Sunday:
"At approximately 4:00 pm today we received a 911 call reporting a capsized boat on the Arkansas River near the Mayo Lock and Dam with multiple victims in the water.
First responders from several LeFlore County agencies were immediately dispatched to the area and assistance was requested from Sequoyah County, OHP, and Sebastian County to get multiple rescue boats in the water near and downstream of the incident. Two victims, a 7 year old male and 4 year old male were both rescued and transported by EMS to Sparks Regional Medical center. Two adults are still missing at this time.
Due to the current dangerous conditions on the river the search has been halted for the night and will resume tomorrow morning."
