It's really hard to tell if you're being scammed or not when they claim that there is no sound coming from their instrument.
In recent months, many law enforcement agencies across America have begun warning members of the public about an increasing trend occurring nationwide--the use fake violinists who ask for money on street corners and well-known tourist destinations while playing what seems like real music behind them. But some skeptical sleuths have figured out that they're not playing along to the track, they're actually pretending to play, and the violin part is recorded. Police departments are warning generous people to be aware of these scammers and not give them any money, especially from a mobile payment app.
