Owners of these recalled vehicles are urged to park away from their homes

If you own a Hyundai or Kia SUV, you may want to pay attention to this. The two automakers are recalling more than 1.2 million vehicles because of a potential fire hazard.

A vast majority of the recalled vehicles (245,030) are Hyundai Palisade SUVs from model years 2020, 2021, and 2022. The remainder (36,417) are Kia Telluride vehicles, also from model years 2020, 2021, and 2022.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem has to do with a wiring issue that could cause the vehicles' engines to overheat and catch on fire.

So far, there have been no reports of any fires actually occurring as a result of this issue. However, it's better to be safe than sorry, so if you own one of these vehicles, you may want to take it in for a check-up.

What to do if you own one of the recalled vehicles

Because of the fire risk situation, it's recommended that owners of the recalled SUVs park outside and away from their homes and other structures until their vehicles have been repaired.

Hyundai and Kia are urging all owners of affected vehicles to get them checked out as soon as possible. You can find out if your car is included in the recall by visiting NHTSA's website and entering your vehicle's VIN number.
