The Documentary Country Music Fans Have Been Waiting On!

Ya'll, I'm so ready to watch this new documentary. They Called Us Outlaws: Cosmic Cowboys, Honky Tonk Heroes And the Rise of Renegade Troubadours, a six-part documentary due next year.

Executive produced by country music luminaries Jessi Colter, Ray Benson, and Jack Ingram (who narrates), the 12-hour film, released in association with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, will feature interviews or performances from names like Church and Miranda Lambert to contemporary singer-songwriters Tyler Childers and Charley Crockett, to late Seventies legends like Guy Clark and Billy Joe Shaver.

Back in the early days of country music, there were a group of artists who didn’t quite fit into the mainstream. They called them Outlaws, and they were determined to do things their own way.

This was a period of great innovation for country music, and the outlaws were responsible for creating a sound that was all their own. They were influenced by rock ‘n’ roll, blues, and folk music, and they blended these styles together to create a new kind of country music.

Their songs were about rebellion and independence, and they spoke to the frustrations and aspirations of people who felt like they didn’t fit in. They became icons for a generation of people who were searching for something new and different in country music.

Some of the biggest names in Outlaw Country include Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Jessi Colter, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash. These artists helped to define the genre, and their music is still popular today.

So what is Outlaw Country? Basically, it’s a style of country music that rejects mainstream values and celebrates independence and individuality. It’s been around since the early days of country music, and it’s still going strong today. If you’re looking for something new and different in country music, then you need to check out outlaw country!

They Called Us Outlaws, written and directed by Austin filmmaker Eric Geadelman and filmed by Kelly Magelky, is slated for a 2023 release.

I've watched the trailer 3 times. I love great documentaries and if they're about country music, even better! While you're waiting on this one to come out, go check out Tennessee Whiskey: The Dean Dillon Story over on Amazon Prime. It's all about the guy who wrote George Strait's biggest hits and so many more legendary Country music songs including Tennesee Whiskey.

Country On!
