Aldi has become a major player in the grocery business in the U.S. since opening their first location in 1976. The German-based company now has over 2,300 stores throughout the nation and a loyal fan base and EatThis,NotThat! has come up with a list of six items that have been drawing raves from customers. Here’s what they found.
- Sundae Shoppe Stroopwafel Ice Cream Sandwiches – these treats are currently an “Aldi Find” through today, July 25 at $4.95 for a box of four. They consist of two dulce de leche-filled stroopwafel cookies with a layer of vanilla ice cream in between. One Redditor said “Yes they’re delicious! I regret not buying 2 boxes” but another complained that the sandwiches were too small and were about the diameter of a can of soda.
- Choceur Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels – Aldi has competition with this product from Costco and Sam’s Club but their product is getting rave reviews. One Redditor posted a photo with the comment of “I can’t stop. Send help!!!” and another said “They’re gone in one night at my house.”
- Goat Cheese – Aldi sells several varieties of goat cheese at $1.89 per log that include plain, honey, cranberry cinnamon, blueberry vanilla, double cream amarena cherry and everything bagel flavors. Comments include pairing the goat cheese with crackers and strawberries, broiling the cheese in a cast-iron pan with red pepper strips and olive oil, and “it makes a great topping for little toasts, sturdy crackers or pieces of French bread.”
- Roasted Pine Nut Hummus – hummus at Aldi is sold under the Park Street Deli brand and comes in several flavors and one Redditor said it’s “the best hummus [they]’ve ever had.” Other popular hummus flavors include roasted garlic, cilantro jalapeño, and Significant Spicy.
- Clancy’s Cheese Curls – as a direct competitor to the “name brand”, Aldi’s product is getting positive reviews. An 8.5-ounce bag costs $1.98 at Aldi and a comparable bag of Cheetos goes for $4.38 and Redditors said the Clancy’s snack is less salty, cheesier, and crunchier.
- Southern Grove Tuscan Trail Mix – Aldi’s version of trail mix includes almonds, cashews, peanuts, sesame sticks, garlic breadsticks, and rye chips are also getting high marks. One Redditor said “I like all the components, but sesame sticks are my favorite. I like that the mix is completely savory/salty, and there’s no random raisins or weird chocolate in it.”
