Study suggests only sleeping with one partner could be the key to a happy marriage

The idea of waiting for sex until your wedding night isn’t exactly the norm these days, but it turns out it may actually be the secret to a happy marriage. A new survey from the Institute of Family Studies suggests that folks whose only sex partner is their spouse are more likely to say they have a “very happy” marriage, as compared to those who have had multiple sex partners.
Looking at data from 1989 to 2016, the researchers discovered that 71% of men and 64% of women who had only slept with their spouses said they were happy in their relationship. Meanwhile, women were 13% less likely to say they were happy if they had six to ten partners, while men who slept with more than 21 partners were 15% less likely to be happy in their relationship.
So why are virgins happier? Well, the researchers believe it could be because those who wait for sex until after marriage may just be more commitment-oriented. Plus, without anything to compare it to, they simply may not realize what they are missing.
- But all those people who slept around before tying the knot don’t really have anything to worry about, since overall 64% of people in the study said they were “very happy” with their relationship.
