If no one’s ever told you, you deserve a healthy relationship. Throw that toxic stuff out the window!
Here’s some ways to shut it down:
- Recognize that you're in a toxic relationship. - The MOST important thing to do.
- Look for patterns from childhood. - You unconsciously repeat things that you’ve seen done as a kid.
- Prepare your finances. -...especially if boo is the breadwinner.
- Seek outside help. - Family first!
- Speak up for yourself. - Your opinion matters!
- Create boundaries. - And, stick to your guns!
- Do a digital detox. - No social media for a few days won’t kill you.
- Prepare for the counterstrike.- They probably won’t let you go so easily.
- If you can't break ties, limit contact. - We know it won’t be a walk in the park.
- Try the Gray Rock Method. - “Abusers thrive on intensity,” says marriage and family therapist Christine Scott-Hudson. “So making yourself as boring and uninteresting as possible can be a protective measure.”
