Instead of annoying your dog by rehearsing a bunch of canned answers, how about concentrating on what employers really want out of applicants? Hereās what career consultant Sandy Golinkin says you should concentrate on:
- Do Your Research.Do a deep dive into the companyās recent news, social media posts, and look into your interviewer via LinkedIn.Theyāre most likely looking at your feeds so itās only fair.Showing up prepared, with answers based around what the company is doing, youāre showing the interviewer that you understand the organizationās mission and you really want to work there.
And hereās a cheat sheet for answering some of the most popular interview questions.
- Name our biggest competitors.Donāt say ācompanies that take your customers.ā Instead, show you did your research and look up who theyāre actually trying to beat in the marketplace. āItās an indicator that you did your homework and you are able to process that information,ā says Golinkin.
- What you can offer us that other candidates cannot?āIām a hard worker and I want to work hereā isnāt going to cut it. Study the job posting from top to bottom and hone in on the qualifications you feel strongest in and give examples to back up why youāre their ideal candidate.
- If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why? They donāt care that youāre a mega Ariana Grande fan. Pick someone that exemplifies the qualities theyāre looking for someone that raised the bar in that companyās industry. Golinkin says that this is a good way to showcase āthat you are generally obsessed with this sector.ā
