Dear managers,
Is it too much to ask from us to get a pat on the back every once in a while? Obviously, not a real one since, you know...HANDS, but how about a little recognition? Not to make this awkward, but studies show your positive feedback feels just as good as a nice spooning session.
Remote feedback and recognition for work have been shown to trigger the release of oxytocin. This is the feelgood, stress-reducing hormone that’s also released by a hug from a loved one. In other words, our managers could cuddle us by simply talking to us.Sorry for the visual.
Therapist Dr. Phil Parker says praise for hard work is more important than ever with workers stuck at home and that managers shouldn’t hold back just because they’ll have to deliver it via Zoom. Parker says people get the same uplifting feeling whether the compliments are virtual or face-to-face. And considering that a lack of recognition is one of the top reasons people leave their jobs, and your employees have a lot of time to be looking elsewhere from their couch right now, it’s probably best you start giving out more gold stars ASAP.
